When installing an ultrasonic flowmeter, it is crucial to choose the right location to ensure accurate and reliable measurements. Proper installation helps prevent common issues that may affect performance. So, what should be avoided during the installation process?

1. Avoid placing the flowmeter near pumps, high-power radios, or frequency converters, as these can generate strong electromagnetic interference and vibrations that may affect the accuracy of readings.

2. Choose a section of the pipe that is uniform, smooth, and free from obstructions. This ensures better transmission of ultrasonic waves and improves measurement precision.

3. Ensure there is a sufficient straight section of pipe before and after the installation point. The upstream straight section should be at least 10 times the pipe diameter (10D), while the downstream should be at least 5D.

4. If the installation is upstream of a pump, maintain a distance of at least 30D to avoid turbulence caused by the pump’s operation.

5. Make sure the pipe is completely filled with fluid. Air pockets or partial filling can lead to incorrect measurements and damage the device over time.

Installing an ultrasonic flowmeter is generally straightforward compared to other types of flowmeters. Once you select an appropriate measurement point, enter the relevant piping parameters into the meter, and secure the probe to the pipe, the installation is complete. However, following the guidelines above will significantly improve the accuracy and longevity of your flowmeter.
