Development and Reform Commission: Strengthening Research and Development of Nonferrous Metals

According to an August 13 report, the National Development and Reform Commission issued an analysis of the non-ferrous metals industry in the first half of 2013 and pointed out that the overcapacity and economic decline are still the main issues facing the industry. In the second half of the year, we must strictly control the total amount, strengthen the development of new nonferrous metal materials, and expand the application of deep processing products. Analysis of the industry, new material processing companies are expected to benefit.

The National Development and Reform Commission stated that non-ferrous metal production has grown steadily in the first half of this year and economic efficiency has declined. From January to May, the gross profit of non-scale non-ferrous metals industry enterprises in the country was 48.6 billion yuan, down 7.3% year-on-year; the increase in investment from January to June dropped by 3.3. Percentage points; price shocks down, the average price of copper, aluminum, lead and zinc in the domestic market in June was about 51,600 yuan/ton, 14,700 yuan/ton, 13,900 yuan/ton and 14,800 yuan/ton, down 6% year-on-year respectively. 9%, 10% and 3%; in addition, the volume of imports and exports has declined.

The NDRC pointed out that the above problems are mainly due to the irrational industrial structure, “large middle size, small size”, excessive smelting capacity, shortage of high value-added processed products, and dependence on imports. In this regard, we must do a good job in resolving the problem of overcapacity, promote technological advancement of enterprises, strengthen the development of new nonferrous metal materials, and expand the application of deep processing products.
