Recently, Shandong Energy Xinwen Mining Group's Yili Energy Company announced that its coal-to-natural gas project has received official approval from China's National Development and Reform Commission. The approval marks a significant milestone as the project moves forward with its preliminary planning and development phase. This decision paves the way for the company’s ambitious 2 billion cubic meter coal-based natural gas initiative and strengthens its long-term strategic partnerships.
The project, which is currently the largest single-unit coal-to-gas facility in the world, has been under construction since June 2009. As of now, the civil engineering work is nearly complete, and the project is transitioning into the equipment installation stage. Once fully operational, the plant will produce approximately 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. This clean energy will be transported via the "West-East Gas Transmission" pipeline system to various provinces across mainland China.
In addition to natural gas, the facility will also generate several valuable by-products, including tar, naphtha, ammonia, crude phenol, and other chemical feedstocks.
