China's graphene industry has broad prospects for industrialization
**Abstract**: The graphene industry is currently on the verge of industrialization, particularly in applications related to heat dissipation and electrical conductivity. At the recent 2013 Wuxi Graphene Industry Innovation and Development Forum, Li Yichun, secretary-general of the China Graphene Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, emphasized the promising future of the graphene sector and called for a stronger focus on technology industrialization. He highlighted that the goal is not just basic research but practical innovation that can drive real-world applications.
As a high-performance material, graphene holds great potential due to its unique properties, including low cost and strong substitution advantages. This has made it a key player in various industries, from electronics to energy storage.
Qin Jianliang, deputy director of the Wuxi Huishan Economic Development Zone Management Committee, noted that the zone has been actively developing the graphene industry by establishing the Jiangsu Digital Information Industrial Park in collaboration with the Shenzhen Tsinghua Research Institute. The initiative aims to boost R&D, talent cultivation, and industrialization efforts.
Today, the Huishan Development Zone is home to several core graphene companies, such as Wuxi Sixth Element Technology Co., Wuxi Gefei Electronic Film Technology Co., Ltd., and Wuxi Lihe Photoelectric Sensor Technology Co., Ltd. These enterprises have accumulated over 30 invention patents, with Gefei Electronics and Heli Optoelectronics being leaders in domestic graphene applications. Recently, the first production line for graphene transparent conductive film, with an annual output of 30,000 square meters, was officially launched.
Li Yichun also mentioned that the China Graphene Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance was established with the goal of uniting graphene-related enterprises to promote sustainable development. The alliance focuses on industrialization rather than basic research. In August this year, the alliance partnered with the Huishan Development Zone to establish the country’s first graphene innovation development demonstration base. Both parties have completed the initial planning and are preparing for a full-scale expansion of the graphene application industry.
According to an industry source, by seizing the opportunity in the graphene sector, Wuxi has taken a leading position in the global competition.
It is reported that the China Graphene Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance is currently setting up four industrial innovation bases across the country, in Wuxi, Qingdao, Shenzhen, and Ningbo. Local governments will introduce supportive policies, attract international and domestic innovation teams, and integrate with local industries to accelerate graphene industrialization.
