Angle steel type specification
Angle steel is primarily categorized into two types: equal angle steel and unequal angle steel. Among these, unequal angle steel can be further divided into two subtypes—those with different widths and those with different thicknesses. This distinction plays a key role in determining the structural properties and applications of the material.
The dimensions of angle steel are typically indicated by the length of its sides and the thickness of the material. In China, the standard specifications range from 2 to 20, where the numbers represent the side length in centimeters. Each size may come in 2 to 7 different thickness options. Imported angle steel, on the other hand, specifies the actual dimensions of both sides along with relevant international standards. Large angle steel refers to sections with a side length of 12.5 cm or more, while medium angle steel ranges between 5 cm and 12.5 cm, and small angle steel has a side length of 5 cm or less.
When it comes to import and export orders, the specifications required for use usually dictate the selection. The steel grade corresponds to the appropriate carbon steel number. It's important to note that, aside from the size, angle steel does not have specific composition or performance series, which makes it versatile but also requires careful selection based on application needs.
In terms of delivery length, angle steel is typically supplied in fixed lengths or double lengths. Domestic angle steel in China is available in ranges such as 3-9 meters, 4-12 meters, 4-19 meters, and 6-19 meters, depending on the specification. Japanese angle steel, meanwhile, is commonly available in lengths ranging from 6 to 15 meters.
For unequal angle steel, the height of the cross-section is calculated based on the width of the longer side. This type of steel features an angular section with unequal side lengths and is widely used in various industries. It is manufactured through hot rolling and typically comes in sizes ranging from ∠50×32 up to ∠200×125, with thicknesses varying between 4 mm and 18 mm.
Unequal angle steel finds extensive use in metal structures, bridges, machinery, shipbuilding, and construction projects. It is commonly found in beams, bridge supports, transmission towers, lifting equipment, ships, industrial furnaces, reaction towers, container racks, and storage facilities. Its strength, durability, and flexibility make it an essential component in many engineering and architectural applications.
