Energy-saving retrofit of injection molding machines can save 70% of annual expenses

High-energy transformers have long been the backbone of power systems in small and medium-sized factories across China. Back in the 1980s, the equipment was large and inefficient, largely due to the limited production capacity at the time. During that period, rapid societal development put a lot of pressure on energy usage, and the high energy consumption of these machines became a major concern for users. For instance, the S7-type transformer, which was widely used during that era, was known for its outdated technology and significant power loss. As a result, it was eventually classified as obsolete by the government. We spoke with Li Bo, who once worked in an injection molding factory several decades ago. He shared, "Back then, we only needed one shift per day, but the factory manager would constantly patrol the workshop to ensure we didn’t waste electricity. Even with such strict supervision, our monthly electricity bills were still extremely high and scary." However, after implementing energy-saving upgrades on the injection molding machines, the costs dropped significantly. With the advancement of technology and growing awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection, the government has started to prioritize energy efficiency. Many subsidies are now available for energy-saving renovations, with support ranging from 20% to 30%. Some companies with better financial conditions have taken full advantage of these programs. Energy-saving measures have also begun in existing buildings, focusing mainly on external walls and windows to prevent air leakage and reduce energy waste. Similarly, factories—especially those with high annual electricity consumption—have recognized the urgency of energy-saving upgrades. The massive electricity costs have severely impacted their operational expenses, making energy renovation a critical priority. According to statistics, for a 400 kVA high-energy transformer, the annual electricity bill can be reduced by around 38,000 yuan. With a 50% subsidy from the national energy-saving program, the cost of the renovation can be fully recovered within three years, compared to over 70% of the previous expenses. For example, in 2012, the Cixi Power Supply Bureau completed the energy-saving transformation of 691 S7-type transformers, with a total capacity of 11.2 MVA. This is expected to save 2.24 million kWh annually, equivalent to saving 807 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by a significant amount. It also helps cut down on sulfur dioxide emissions, bringing substantial economic and environmental benefits. Energy-saving transformation of injection molding machines: http://...
