The generation and prevention of stone rust yellow

Generally, the cause of rust yellow can be discussed from three aspects. Primary rust yellow

There are iron-containing minerals in the interior of marble, such as iron carbonate, iron sulfide, iron silicate minerals, etc., which have been detailed in the previous chapters. Generally, iron-bearing minerals are more stable with iron silicate minerals, and iron sulfide is the least. Stable, therefore, unstable iron sulfide can be said to be the cause of the largest rust yellow pollution on the stone surface. In addition, although the biotite is more stable than iron sulfide, it may be oxidized and rusted to form limonite (Fe2O3, nH2O) under the action of acid and water for a long time. The contaminated stone forms rust yellow, and even expands due to rust. When the layers are peeled off, the rust is formed in the stone, and even if the volume expands due to rust, the layers are peeled off, thereby forming a small pit on the surface of the stone.

Rust yellow caused by improper stone processing procedures

1. When the original stone is cut by steel wire sawing, the surface of the stone may not be cleaned due to residual steel sand, and after the action of water vapor, rust spots are formed. In general, after the stone is ground and polished, the rust spot usually does not occur again.

Second, the stone is pickled after being cut, and the residual acid substance causes the accelerated oxidation of the iron-containing mineral of the stone.

Stone hanging accessories pollution

When the stone is installed by the wet reinforcement method or the dry method, the iron fittings are rusted and spread to the surface of the stone to form rust yellow. The reason for the rust yellow is that the stone itself contains unstable iron-containing minerals, or the foreign rust penetrates into the surface of the stone due to moisture to cause rust yellow.

Therefore, reducing the moisture content of the stone can avoid the occurrence of stone rust yellow. Other preventive measures are as follows:

1. Before the installation of the stone, the protective work shall be carried out to prevent water from intruding into the slate to avoid oxidation of the iron-containing minerals with water and oxygen in the air to cause rust yellow.

Second, when cleaning the stone, avoid using acid-containing detergent to clean, because the acidic material is easy to dissolve the stone iron mineral, and then further react with water and air to cause rust yellow.

Third, when the stone is installed in the dry method, the stainless steel holding parts should be carefully selected to avoid the hanging pieces, and the rust will spread to the surface of the stone to form rust yellow. After the decoration of the stone saw wear, the reprotectant should be applied once to prevent the rust yellow from spreading to the surface and forming pollution.
