"Friendly grid-connected" into a new standard for photovoltaic power plants

In recent days, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, and Liaoning have begun to evaluate several "grid-friendly" wind farms and photovoltaic power stations. As renewable energy generation becomes more volatile and distributed power with high penetration continues to grow, the stability and security of power grids are under increasing pressure. Consequently, "grid-friendly" has become a new standard for both wind farms and solar power plants. Recently, Battelle in the U.S. developed a "grid-friendly charging control technology" that allows electric vehicles to automatically start or stop charging based on grid conditions. This helps reduce grid stress from the user side, lowers costs for owners, and enhances grid security. According to Dan Tang, a project manager at the U.S. Department of Energy's intelligence division, "We need smart charging stations that match intelligent cars and smart grid infrastructure to avoid overloading the grid and offer flexible energy billing options." Yao Xiaoqin, a senior member of the China Wind Energy Committee, explained that building a strong smart grid and a friendly grid environment requires coordination between power generation equipment and the grid to support grid safety and economic operation. In foreign countries, grid-connected friendliness is a fundamental principle in the construction of photovoltaic and wind power plants, but in China, there is still a gap in standards and implementation. This inconsistency has led to issues like "abandoned sun" in the northwest region, where solar and wind power are wasted due to poor grid integration. China's renewable energy sector has grown rapidly. By the end of 2012, its wind power capacity reached 63 million kilowatts, making it the world’s largest wind power country. Wind power now ranks as the third-largest power source in China. Similarly, photovoltaic capacity grew significantly, reaching 7 GW by 2012 and expected to hit 10 GW in 2013. However, the intermittent nature of renewables has created challenges in grid connection. The National Energy Administration reported that in 2012, about 20 billion kWh of wind power was wasted. That equates to over 6.78 million tons of standard coal lost, causing direct economic losses exceeding 10 billion yuan. Grid integration problems have already emerged, and industry insiders warn that these issues could worsen if not addressed. To improve grid compatibility, Yao Xiaoqin emphasized the importance of enhancing the predictability, stability, and controllability of renewable energy. Technologies such as low-voltage ride-through—where wind turbines maintain grid connection during voltage drops—are critical. Germany implemented similar requirements as early as 2003, while China only began addressing this in 2007. Despite progress, many standards remain unimplemented. For example, low-voltage ride-through capabilities were not included in national standards until recently. Even today, some wind farms still struggle with this issue, with companies replacing multiple turbines to pass inspections. To address these challenges, the National 863 Program launched a project in Lanzhou in late 2012, focusing on key technologies for grid-friendly new energy generation. Experts suggest that manufacturers must invest in R&D to improve performance, including better inverter control and reactive power regulation. At the same time, user-side solutions like Battelle’s charging control system can help stabilize the grid during fluctuations. Ultimately, creating a friendly grid environment requires collaboration among manufacturers, power producers, and grid operators. Only through joint efforts can renewable energy integrate smoothly into the grid, ensuring a sustainable and efficient energy future.

Sds Drill Bits

SDS Plus and SDS Max drill bits can be used for drilling operations in concrete, reinforced concrete, granite and similar materials. SDS-Plus has a drilling diameter of 4mm to 32mm and a drilling depth of 110mm to 1000mm; SDS-Max has a drilling diameter of 12mm to 52mm and a drilling depth of up to 1200mm.

SDS Drill Bits are available with two (properly shaped integral straight edges), three (star arrangement) or four (integral cross arrangement) inserts, made of cemented carbide. They are deeply embedded in the steel head with industrial solder and are characterized by a high degree of mechanical and heat resistance.

SDS Plus and SDS Max Bits should not only be selected based on the diameter of the drilled hole, but also their depth standard. Both of these measures are necessary to maximize productivity.
