"The key technologies and applications of high-concentration anaerobic fermentation of mixed raw materials for biogas production"

On April 28th, the Guangzhou Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, hosted a scientific achievement appraisal meeting for the project titled "Key Materials Technology and Application of Biofuels Prepared by High Concentration Anaerobic Fermentation of Mixed Raw Materials." This project was led by the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The appraisal committee consisted of seven experts from various universities and research institutions nationwide. Professor Liu Yingshu chaired the committee, with Professor Dong Renjie and researcher Ruan Chaoping serving as vice chairs. Deputy Director Zhou Xiaoyun of the Guangzhou Branch, Wu Chuangzhi, Director of the Guangzhou Energy Institute, Jiang Yang, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department, and members of the project team were also present. The meeting was presided over by Zhou Xiaoyun. During the event, the appraisal committee reviewed the project’s work summary and research report presented by the project leader, Yuan Zhenhong. They also visited the laboratory and engaged in detailed discussions and questions. The expert group unanimously recognized that the submitted materials were complete and met all the requirements for evaluation. The project successfully built an anaerobic fermentation database containing over 140 types of raw materials and developed compatibility equations. It introduced innovative technologies such as straw pretreatment, wastewater selection, and high-concentration anaerobic fermentation of mixed materials. Key equipment like the household waste water selection system, high-concentration feeding device, and anaerobic reactor were developed. A high-concentration anaerobic fermentation process was established, achieving efficient, continuous, and stable operation, significantly increasing biogas production rates. A demonstration project with a capacity of 500m³ was also constructed, focusing on the enrichment of fermentation materials from domestic wastewater. The project demonstrates significant innovations in raw material pretreatment, nutritional compatibility, and the anaerobic fermentation process and equipment for biogas production. It has reached international advanced levels and has passed the appraisal. Experts recommended further promotion and application of the technology to expand its impact.
